So many people ask the question of what is the best workout routine for them. There are plenty of experienced professionals out there who can attempt to answer the question. But at the end of the day the only person who can truly plan the best workout routine is you.
You know yourself, you know what you’re capable of, you know what you like and don’t like. These are the most important factors when planning a workout routine. Why? Because these are the deciding factors as to whether or not you will stick with it. But how do you plan a workout routine you can stick to. This article will tell you exactly how.
How to Find the Best Workout Routine for You
You can have the most carefully planned, maximum effect workout routine but there is no point if you can’t stick with it. I’ve been through countless failed attempts at trying to find a regimen that is right for me. However, for the past two and a half months I have worked out regularly and enjoyed it! Finally, I have cracked the code. Here are my tips for finding the best workout routine for you.
Be Honest With Yourself
I can’t stress enough how important it is to be honest with yourself when trying to find a workout routine to stick to. Telling yourself that you will learn to like something rarely works. Just because something gives you results, if you don’t enjoy it, you’re unlikely to stick with it. You also need to be honest with yourself about your goals. If you’re already busy and you tell yourself that you’re going to work out for an hour each day, it’s going to be hard to achieve. Be realistic about what you can accomplish. There’s nothing wrong with starting small and working your way up.
Try New Activities and Adopt Those You Love
Working out doesn’t have to mean going the gym. Always be on the lookout for new activities to try; you never know what you might like. And you also don’t have to rule out things you didn’t like in the past. As we change so do our likes and dislikes. I always hated running but now I absolutely love it. A different environment and a need to get outside have totally changed my perspective. If you find something you like try to figure out how you can incorporate it into your workout routine. If you’re struggling to find activities I have tons of ideas in my book Fitness and Exercise The Fun Way.
Stay Flexible and Adapt Your Routine
Don’t expect to stick with a workout routine forever. You’re bound to get bored at some point. I tend to do the same activities every week for a month and then modify things a bit. There’s no need to change everything, but adding in a new activity and removing one you’re bored with can make a huge difference. Many activities are seasonal and that can be a perfect excuse to change things up. Summer workouts can include bodyboarding or rollerblading. Winter workouts can be hitting the slopes or even just playing in the snow. Tie in fun activities so that it doesn’t even feel like working out.
Discover What Motivates You
Even with the best workout routine everyone needs a little motivation now and again. Try to discover what motivates you. Motivation can come in many forms. It might be a health problem you’re trying to overcome, a race you need to prepare for, or an outfit you want to fit into. It might simply be a desire to be outside, an awesome playlist to listen to or accountability from others. Motivation is whatever drives you to start your workout and it’s what keeps you going.
The best workout routine will always be the one that you can stick to. Following these steps will help you to find the workout routine that is best for you.
